GM notes from session two
Glit, Thistle, and Mashito woke to the sounds of a herd thundering through the forest to the east. They shared some food with their prisoners, one of whom is named Fang, knocked the prisoners unconscious near their canoe, and headed east (the direction they were going anyway). Thistle shapeshifted into a grizzly bear.
They found a small steading of a few huts. The humble homes were being smashed by two ogres, each bigger than a human; the occupants had fled into the forest. One ogre wore an eyepatch the other had many scars all over his body. They both had remains of leather strap harnesses on, and five reptilian slavers were trying to get the ogres under control. In addition, a mutated dinosaur creature much like a Tyrannosaurus Rex was thrashing about angrily. A wooden and metal battle-wagon with a roped crane device held a metal cage, big enough to hold an ogre, above the fray. Three reptoids were trying to get the dinosaur under control, and two slavers were using their whips to subdue the ogres. The remains of the trampling horde could be seen moving quickly north from the wreck of the steading.
Mashito recognized his companion Titanius the Barbarian (“We’re friends from work!”). Titanius was engaged with the dinosaur; such creatures had menaced his tribe ages ago. He drew blood from the Tyrannosaur’s leg first with his broadsword, then moved around behind to stab the monster’s tail repeatedly. This enraged the hapless creature, killing one slaver, but the dinosaur crashed away through the woods bearing many wounds. Titanius put some of the creature’s blood in his pouch.
Meanwhile, Glit and Thistle tried to help with the ogres. The grizzly bear reared up and threatened “Eyepatch” who became a bit befuddled facing a large creature at his eye level. The other ogre, “Scars,” used a large piece of timber to whomp a slaver in the chest, sending him flying yards away. Glit started clambering up the crane device to Mashito’s chagrin.
Titanius let out a mighty cry and with a downward swing practically sliced “Scars” in half from shoulder to waist. The reptilian slavers, suitably awed, could not communicate verbally with our heroes but the three remaining reptoids moved to corner “Eyepatch,” who had resumed breaking things in rage.
Glit had clambered up the top of the crane and jabbed a tool into one of the gears near the cage. He fumbled and was left hanging by one hand, while the joint of the crane arm was now broken. Glit had to drop his elven oil, and he indicated that he wanted his staff that he left on the ground, but Thistle didn’t understand. Just before the crane arm collapsed under the weight, Mashito pushed Glit onto the top of the cage. They landed safely, with the heavy cage falling on the ground and hurting no one.
